It's very unusual for a passenger to be killed in a train wreck.
Can anyone remember the last time this happened?
According to a friend of mine, Amtrak has had only 16 fatalities in its
entire 11 year history. If you compare that with the domestic air and road
transportation industries and I think you will find that rail seems to be the
safest mode.
