All of the buses in Pittsburgh are either ordered with sanders, or have them installed after they arrive. The older GMC buses have these as retrofits, and I think the new Neoplan coaches, too. The AM General, newer GMC, and MAN buses have sanders built-in (as I recall). On our local PCC streetcars, the sand pipes used to freeze up in the winter. I remember once when I was in high school, having to get out of my seat so the motorman could scoop some sand from the top of sand box (under the seat) to take outside and spread on the rails.
