One of our users is getting an error code 2401 after powering his 8530 on in the morning. The characters on the screen are distorted until a re-boot is performed. If anyone has run into this problem, or can provide some help, please email replies. Thanks in advance.

2401 is a monitor/video board failure. The 01 means general failure, and the 24 is obviously the VGA. A friend of mine has a multi-sync, and he gets this error occasionally. If you have a true-blue 8530 monitor, then the error should be with the VGA controller on your motherboard. I doubt the monitor would be defective.

I doubt | the monitor would be defective. I beg to differ. I've experienced a very high failure rate on IBM 8512 and 8513 displays (on the order of 30%). 90% of the 2401 errors I've encountered were resolved by replacing the display. An intersting note is that sometimes just swapping the monitor with one on another system will make the problem go away; the problem no longer occurs on the original system and does not start on the new one. My guess is that early IBM VGA color displays have some impedence matching problems. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Medici/SysProg3 * Rutgers University/CCIS * medici@elbereth.rutgers.edu ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
