We've been having a recurrent problem with our Model 80 PC, and unfortunately, we can't find PS/2 hardware reference manual to look this up. The symptoms are 1) case problems (letters displayed in upper case with cap locks off and all shifted characters displayed - ie, no periods, only >s) and 2) the PC won't boot, after displaying the memory, the screen looks like 1024K 36 301 162 If anybody has seen this, or can look it up in their hardware manual and let me know what it is, I'd appreciate it. It appears to go away as intermittently as it arrives, but it has us stumped. Thanks for any info. I would look for a sticking key (Shift?). A 301 error indicates the keyboard did not respond to a software reset correctly or a key is stuck down. If a key is stuck down, the scan code of the key is also given: maybe that's what the '36' represents. The 162 error indicates the self-test detects a bad CMOS CRC. I would guess this error is just noise from the keyboard problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just Because I'm Paranoid Ron Crandall Doesn't Mean the World's PSU Office of Telecommunications Really Not Against Me... Beth, The "1024K" refers to the amount of memory that passed the power-on checks. The "36 301" refers to a keyboard (301) failure and the "36" is the scan code of the individual key that failed - I believe it is shown in hex, so the scan code in decimal would be 54...the "6" (number across the top) key. The "162" is either "Clock Not Set" or "Options Not Set"...I don't have a PS/2 reference manual handy, so I can't say for sure. Solution: Check the keyboard for a stuck key. If nothing's stuck and the problem persist, check the cable. If it STILL doesn't work, take it in for service/replacement. The "162" error can usually be cured by using the Option diskette to re-setup the system. Dave the DM
