[comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware] Error codes

ss@sprite.Berkeley.EDU (Srinivasan Seshan) (10/20/90)

I have a PS/2 55SX with 6megs (4 and a 2 meg simm). Last night my computer
locked up (during quite a good game of nethack) and displayed the following
error code:

	110
	?????

Does anyone know what this (looks like a POST error code) refers to.
I don't have a tech ref manual with me to look it up.

Thanks

The list of error codes that I have says:
                110 PS/2 - planer parity
no explanation...

Planer refers to the motherboard, and parity refers to memory parity error.
If this problem persists, it is probably your SIMM's. Even if it is
intermittant, it would indicate a possible problem just waiting to happen.
I recommend running the reference disk diagnostics ASAP (if possible) and
planning on a new SIMM set just in case. You might end up having to go
to a service center to confirm what is wrong.

Sorry the news is so gloomy. There's no way to be positive on any of this,
but given IBM's terminology, that's the only thing I can think of.

Hope your problem is resolved quickly and cheaply! I had a motherboard
die on my model 50, and had to buy a replacement board (no way to fix it).

I have also had this problem on a 1Meg PS/2 Model 30-286. It has seemed to
occur most frequently when performing a long 'xcopy' or when printing
files from Wordperfect (can't think of a relation between those two).

Because it was not my machine I was not too concerned, but I seem to
remember discovering it was some kind of memory error. These are AWFUL
problems (I had one on an Acorn BBC Micro, and eventually gave up
trying to fix it). Good luck, you'll need it.

Does anyone have a list of error codes for ps/2's in a file which they can
post here?

This listing is from the book Upgrading and Repairing PC's. The listing is
a compilation from various sources including IBM technical reference
manuals and IBM hardware maintenance service manuals. The messages are
verbatim, according to the way that they will be displayed.
