[comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware] Sick IBM 8513 Monitor

Jim Gerlach <GERLACHJ@QUCDN.QueensU.CA> (01/21/91)

We have an IBM Model 8513 VGA monitor which suddenely went very dim. Even at
the lightest contrast and brightness settings the colours are extremely dim
and dark colours like blue or green are barely visible. For the last week
the monitor had been giving occasional loud "pops" after which the screen
would momentarily dim before returning to normal. Last night the monitor
"popped" but did not return to its normal brightness. Any suggestions?

FYI... Model 8513-001, S/N 72-0360860, connected to an IBM Model 30-286.
A Zenith 1492 works just fine with the 30-286 so it looks like the monitor is
to blame. Interestingly, this monitor was obtained on 02-Sep-88 as a warrantly
replacement for a year-old 8513 which also was "popping".

Additional info (unrelated?)... The day before this failure I replaced the
1 Mb of SIMMs with 2 Mb of 3rd party RAM. I am assuming this is a coincidence
but...
Thanx in advance for any help!

Jim
