[comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware] Random problem - coprocessor segement overrun

law@ioe.lon.ac.uk (Lindsay Wakeman) (02/22/91)

Apologies if wrong newsgroup - not sure if this is hardware or software.
A user here has developed a statistics program which throws up an apparently
random fault on several (but not all) our new IBM PS/2 model 80 machines.
The problem has not been seen on other 386 systems.

The message given is 'Unexpected exception number 9' which translates
in the Intel 386 DX reference manual as 'Coprocessor segment overrun'.

The code is developed in Watcom C 386 V.8 and Phar Lap RUN386 Extender
V2.2d

Anyone seen this particular error before? We suspect board revision
problems given the different behaviour on matching models of PS/2.

Grazie in anticipo

Lindsay
