Is it possible to upgrade the motherboard RAM on a PS/2 model 30-286? In the PC Lab here we have several of these machines, with 1 meg onboard each. Windows is extremely cramped with the Novell drivers loaded, and we would like to add memory to the motherboard, if possible. The previous management seems to have misplaced our manuals, so I can't RTFM. It looks like there are two banks of SIMMS between the expansion slots and the power supply, but I don't know what size memory is in there now or whether it can be upgraded. Anyone? -- Jason Merrill jmerrill@jarthur.claremont.edu

I checked at one time about adding memory to the 30-286: The motherboard is able to accept 1 meg of RAM. After that, you need to fill a slot. Most any board that fits an AT will work. Check the local dealerships. -- =============================================================================== CONVEX Computer Corporation (CVX) Richardson, Texas Scott C. The 30-286 can take up to 4megs of RAM on the motherboard. It can take either 1meg simms or 256k simms (however these are slightly different from the standard simms, ie make sure you buy 30-286 simms, they are also slightly more expensive). The following memory configs are legal: 512k (2 256k) 1024k (4 256k) 2048k (2 1m) 4096k (4 1m) No mistake above. These are the only valid motherboard combinations. You can't do 1536k etc. You can also add AT memory expansion cards. However, look for short AT cards. Full AT height cards (bigger than XT or PC case) will scrape the side of the 30-286 cabinet possibly causing damage to your card, case, vertical AT bus thing coming from the motherboard. Is it possible to upgrade the memory on the motherboard on the brain damaged model 25 also?
