[comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware] Seeking MCA MIDI card

drdave@buhub.bradley.edu (David L. Vessell) (02/28/91)

Does anyone know of a PS/2 compatible MIDI card on the market?

I heard a rumour that Roland had produced an MCA version of its popular
MPU-401, but I haven't been able to verify that.

I have a Model 55, if that makes any difference (which I kinda doubt).

Help!!

The MCA card is out. It's called the MPU-IMC. It can be had for about
$300 (ouch!). IBM is marketing a complete MPU/CM-32/Software system for
about $600 (student discount).

Does anyone have info on the MCA version of the Soundblaster that is supposed
to be released?

such as:

When?
How much?
Will it be upgradable to handle MIDI like the ISA version?

You're correct. The model is MPU-IMC (MC for MicroChannel). That is
just a MIDI card (no synthesizer), but I guess you knew that ;-)

There maybe a version of SoundBlaster coming for MC, but the
Roland MIDI interface is the standard.

I don't know how much nor will it, but next month is the date. I also
heard that the formally unpublished and ever-changing microchannel spec
had cause some delay in finalizing of the production version.

I called Creative Labs, Inc a few weeks ago. They said that they wouldn't
release any information on the MCA Soundblaster until March.

I had the 800- number for Creative Labs, but I can't find it any more.
Could someone post it again? And maybe that person could call CLI and
see if March 1st isn't too early to ask?
