Hello! Yesterday I got my RAM card, a Tecmar MicroRAM 386 equipped with 16 Meg and the SS/P port module. But I have deep trouble installing it into my true-blue IBM PS/2 Mod. 80-041! The automatic installation sequence from Tecmar patches my reference disk, recognizes the board, installs and configures it. I have 16 Meg RAM on the board, all 80 ns, and I have 2 Meg on the mother board of the Model 80 (IBM original parts, all o.k.). But the problem is: Tecmar's installation software maps the beginning of the 16 Meg to be at 200000 hex, but there is already the mother board's memory! (2 Meg in a Model 80 means 000000-0A0000, 100000-200000 and the 384 K remainder at 200000-260000 hex). So there is an address conflict which results in the advanced diagnostics of Tecmar to declare the 16 Meg as ok, but the diagnostics from IBM to declare the 2 Meg mother board's memory as defect. (Which it isn't. Without the Tecmar board, it tests and runs fine). When I boot from the hard disk, the system crashes with a 111 (parity) error when there is access above 100000 hex. OS/2 and AIX won't even boot, they write "Internal error" on the screen and reboot immediately. I tried using Tecmar's "alternate installation" sequence, which is basically a manual installation. I managed to map the 16 Meg into 260000 hex, resulting in both Tecmar's and IBM's diagnosis to declare total memory to be ok, but the errors under DOS, OS/2 and AIX persist!!!! I have tried reducing access time to 120 ns and disabling zero waitstate and matched memory cycle operation, to no avail. I also tried without the port module, error persists. I called Tecmar, they said they'd call me back, which they didn't. On their support BBS there is no mention of out-dated software or design flaws. Can someone please help me???
