Can anyone tell me what type of hard-disk was in the original IBM PS/2 model 60 60-061. (That is the 60 mb disk model) Is it MFM or RLL or what? Thankx KLox

I hate to say this, but as far as I know, IBM never made a PS/2 Model 60 with a 60M drive standard. There was a 44M disk, and a 70M disk model. If you are talking about the 70M disk, it's an IBM proprietary ESDI. It's ESDI tweaked a bit here and there for "better performance". :) I've heard you can take the drive and use it on standard ESDI systems, but that it must be low-level formatted first. Never tried it, don't know if it's true. The PS/2 systems that come with the proper controller are the older discontinued ESDI models... 60 with 70M, 80 with 70M, and 80 with 115M. (Newer model 80s use standard SCSI drives with IBM's bus-mastering SCSI controller, which *GASP* really is high performance this time!) CORE makes a replacement for this controller that is the odd IBM ESDI but a bus-master for performance that older 60/80 owners wish for. - Darius ========================================================================= BITNET: U39648@UICVM | "I'd rather laugh with the sinners Internet: u39648@uicvm.uic.edu | than cry with the saints, ====================================| the sinners are much more fun, "Don't set fire to strangers." | and only the good die young." - Mr. Zarniwoop | - Billy Joel
