[comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware] Help with system lockup

singhals@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU (Sandeep K. Singhal) (05/20/91)

Hi there!

I hope that someone out there might be able to help me:

I have a PS/2 model 50Z that is about 15 months old. Lately, when I
start it up, it runs for about 2 minutes before locking up. When I
turn off the machine and restart it, I get a red flash on the screen and
nothing happens (although the fan does start up). If I let the computer
sit for about half an hour, it will again run for about 2 minutes.

Any ideas on what might be wrong? I have a bad feeling that the logic
board is fried (e.g. major $$$ to repair :-( but the system is almost new...
Unfortunately, the system has outlived the warranty by about 3 months, so
repairs are going to cost.

By the way, has anyone had any experience with Inacomp? I bought this system
from them 15 months ago. Eleven months later, the 5-1/4 (external) disk
drive broke down and needed replacement (under warranty :-). Now, the CPU
appears to be shot. For some reason, this much problem does not appear to
be natural.

Comments, suggestions, new computers welcome. If possible, please e-mail
replies, since I don't read this group regularly.

		Thanks,
			Sandeep
