[comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware] PS/2 30 floppy question...

dean@towers.uucp (Dean Riddlebarger) (05/23/91)

We have a 8086 PS/2 mod 30 in the office, and the boss just asked whether or
not we could upgrade the 720K drive to 1.44 Mb. I seem to recall an old
machine review that said "No Way!", and our local IBM Authorized Dealer
has the same opinion. But neither of us can say so with complete authority.
A call to IBM's 800 product line produced a "hotline" number at which
everyone with knowledge was "in meetings" for the day (week, month???). So
I still lack the ability to give a definitive answer. With that background,
does anyone out there know if we are stuck with 720K or not? Can we go with
some sort of external drive? If so, vendor data would be nice.

In an ideal world I'd take the 30 and (a) give it an 11 story vertical
realignment onto the pavement of I-65, or (b) donate it to a preschool for
the tax write-off. However, the world is not ideal, we must squeeze all we
can from the office units, and I'll appreciate any feedback that I can
get from other readers.....
