This is not the way to subscribe to Bionauts.
All subscriptions should go to LISTSERV@IRLEARN.
They should not be sent to the list itself.

However to facilitate your entry into the world of Bionauts
I have taken the liberty of adding you to the list at IRLEARN.
You should be getting some mail to that effect in the next day
or so, together with instructions.

Note that LISTSERV@IRLEARN as mentioned in Rob's message is a BITNET
address. If you are on the Internet or some other network besides
BITNET, use LISTSERV@IRLEARN.BITNET or the domain style name
LISTSERV@IRLEARN.UCD.IE.

I'm sorry that I was trying to subscribe to BIONAUT in the wrong way.
I was following instructions in a message I recieved from Bruce Roe on
17 May, 1989 about the Biosci Bulletin Board Network. In there it said
that to subscribe to particular boards what I had to do was send a message
to IN%"bboardname@nodename". This seemed to work before when I subscribed
to the employment, bionews and bio-software bulletin boards. Why didn't it
work with bionauts? Do I understand correctly that I should have addressed
my message thus:
    IN%"BIO-NAUTS%LISTSERV@IRLEARN.BITNET"
?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks, ROB, I needed that.
