(Please excuse possible duplicate posting...)
I'm in the process of selecting a VLSI layout tool for use in a course
in analog design that I'll be teaching starting in January. The course
will use the Gray and Meyer text and will therefore focus on bipolar
analog design. All of the students will have had a course in digital
VLSI design the previous semester.
The tool used in the digital course was MAGIC. Therefore, since all of
the students are already familiar with it, I'd like to use MAGIC for
my course as well. However, reading the manuals, it looks like I'd have
to sink a fair amount of time into coding up the files for use with a
bipolar process technology.
I'm not interested in trying something that's just not possible or in
duplicating work that's already been done. I know I can back off to
the ELECTRIC design tool, but that means the students will have to put
in the time to learn the tool and spend less time learning the stuff I'm
trying to teach them. Therefore, I have two questions:
1. Is it possible to use MAGIC for bipolar design?
2. Does anyone have technology definition and design rule definition
files coded for a typical bipolar process?
Please respond directly to me or via this newsgroup. Thanks!
