[comp.protocols.iso.x400.gateway] IFIP WG6.5 '88 Re: Proposed delta to RFC 987

Administriva: Please note that IFIP-GTWY replaces ARPA-MHS.
Send to it directly for faster distribution.
What is rare-wg1? Should these lists be linked?

Hi Steve -- you say:

> Have we really been buried in the swamps that long???

YES! I fear you have discovered the truth.

I would like to see you (or someone else) clarify the issues of
"Pragmatic Hacks vs Doing Things Properly".

How would you like to prepare a short position paper for the upcoming
IFIP 6.5 Working Conference on MHS and Distributed Applications on this
topic. We will have a Workshop Session on Gateways and your insights
from RFC 987 will be very useful there. We need grist for the mill.

Postion papers should not be long, and will not be subjected to the
regular time consuming referee processes. Instead, it should be
distributed via this IFIP-GTWY@tis.llnl.gov list for discussion between
now and the conference. We hope that such "postion Papers" can then be
quickly refined to embody the results of the Conference Workshop Session
for inclusion in the Published Proceedings.

By The Way -- This list (IFIP-GTWY) is an official IFIP WG6.5 Work Item
activity with a focus on Gateways, and as such its topic will be one of
the primary Conference Workshop Topics.

Other Primary Conference Workshop Topics are Multi-Media/Multi-Mode
Communications, Structured Group Communications, and MHS Management.
MM/MMC and SGC are European Groups while GTWY and MHS-MGMT are North
American Groups.

MHS-MGMT is new and will be set up with a mailing list like GTWY.

The IFIP WG6.5 "MHS and Distributed Applications" Conference will be
held in Southern California on October 10-12, 1988.

Best Regards...\Stef
