[mod.note: This note is crossposted to sci.military and rec.games.programmer.
Followups have been redirected to rec.games.board; you can change it as you
deem appropriate, but remember that followups to sci.military will only
be accepted if they specifically address military technology. - Bill ]

I've noticed that there are almost no postings on sci.military about
wargaming (a la Avalon Hill or SPI). The few postings asking about
the Harpoon domain are the only ones I remember. Surely this is not
because there are no wargame enthusiasts out there? Does this topic
fall in the scope of sci.military or do we need a rec.games.war
newsgroup?

[y.a.mod.note: I would suggest that rec.games.board is the most
appropriate group for such discussions, though r.g programmer might
be better suited in this case. I figure there are a lot of
wargamers reading sci.military, so I decided to allow this "public
service announcement" 8-) - Bill ]

I used to play wargames in high school and college. I don't play
hardly at all now. I spend too much of my time coding up military
scenarios at work to spend my personal time doing it too. In fact,
I will soon be working on a project to build a computer simulation
of Avalon Hill's TacAir wargame as well as a Scenario Generation
Assistant for the same game.

I'd be more interested in wargaming if I could have computer
assistance in doing things like maintaining the board and transmitting
moves across the net to other players. Has anybody worked on
computerized wargames?
