I have heard about at least four universities that are trying to get the Magic VLSI layout editor running on HP 9000/320 workstations (Bobcats) under the X window system. I assume that we are all starting out with the Stanford X driver for Magic. The problem is to remove the hardcoded assumption that there are eight bit planes (since the Bobcat's high resolution display has only four bit planes). It seems silly to duplicate the work. I would like to hear from people who are involved in this effort. Perhaps someone has already completed the job ? Please reply by e-mail. I will summarize the information and post it in info-vlsi.
