I have tried to sent this reply to Russ Holt's message on a Silicon Compiler working group to all of the addresses in his message. None of them made it through the mail system, so my last resort is to send it to the list. Russ, There would be a lot of interest in a Silicon Compiler users group here at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. In the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, a silicon compiler project has been active for four years. There are currently six graduate students and two professors in the silicon compiler working group. The main goal of the group is the conversion of the nMOS MacPitts silicon compiler from MIT Lincoln Laboratory into a multiple technology silicon compiler. We are currently working on a SCMOS version of the compiler. We are working on all areas of silicon compilation including routing algorithms, application-specific front end processors, adaptive floor plans, cell design, and graphic input of a flow chart to a silicon compiler. My thesis involves design of a static SCMOS microprogrammed controller that can be generated from a MacPitts design specification. If you start a silicon compiler users group, please add me to it.
