We just upgraded the Sun OS to SUN UNIX Release 3.3, and this seems to have broken magic. We are using SUN2's with a color screen to the side (/dev/cgone0). Magic boots up normally, and the picture on the color screen is fine. But when I move the cursor off the B&W screen onto the color screen, the color screen immediately changes to black and white (everything that was white before stays white, everything that was colored before turns black). It stays in this state. I've been told that among the upgrades in going to 3.3, the internals were changed from suntools to sunview. I know very little about the internals of the sun graphics system, so take this paragraph with a very large grain of salt. I spoke with the magic folks, and while they have heard of the problem, they don't have the hardware (the side-by-side tubes) to play with it. So my question is has anyone else run across this problem, and more importantly, does anyone have a fix? Currently the only way I can run magic is on the B&W screen with stipple patterns and it leaves much to be desired. --Jim Guilford (guilford@csv.rpi.edu) or maybe ...!rutgers!nysernic!rpics!guilford
