[comp.lsi] Pen plotter software with VLSI Tools??

kriso@northstar5.dartmouth.EDU (Kris Olander) (01/16/88)

I'm looking for info for two problems.

1. We have VLSI Tools 1986 running on our Sun3/60 with screendumps
going to a LaserWriter. This is ok for black and white but we
have two IBM plotters (HP 7475A emulators) which we would like
to get Magic to output to.
Does anyone know if Magic's cif stuff will output over the
serial port to the plotters or is there some software available
    for this purpose.

2. We also feel that the SPICE hooks in VLSI Tools are extremely
useful. The problem is that we don't have a SPICE version
on our Suns which will output plots to suntools windows. I'm
sure with all the Sun systems running on the Berkeley campus
that there must be software running SPICE3 outputing graphics
to Sun windows. Got any answers???

Unfortunately we don't have a suntools graphics interface for spice3 yet.
Many Sun users at Berkeley use X, which is supported by spice3. Alternately
you could create a plot(5) file with the `hardcopy' command and use a
tek window to view it.

C-MU has developed a general CIF plotter. It will plot CIF files on
all sorts of devices, including Imagen laser printers, X-Window devices,
and some sort of HP plotter we had. Unfortunately, I don't remember what
kind of plotter it was, other than of HP make.

Anyways, the person to contact is Mike Trick, trick@ohm.ece.cmu.edu.
He is the author, and would know more about just what it ran on.
