[comp.lsi] New VLSI layout tools from Berkeley ?

tamir@CS.UCLA.EDU (Yuval Tamir) (01/30/88)

I have heard that R. Newton's group at Berkeley has recently
started distributing a new VLSI layout tool with various
additional related tools.
I would like to get more information about these tools.
What exactly is available ?
What are the important enhancements to the layout tool
compared with Magic ?

We've been distributing an entirely new system, the "Oct Tools".
This consists mainly of a cad database, oct, a "view editor", vem,
and a large number of support tools including extractors, simulators,
a compactor, and logic tools (espresso, mis). More layout tools are
under development and should go out on a future oct tools release.

The oct/vem framework is oriented towards symbolic design and is very
flexible. Application tools such as placers, routers, simulators,
and so forth can run as Remote Procedure Call clients of the editor,
or can use the database directly as standalone programs.

To get a copy, I believe that you can contact:

And ask about the "Oct Tools" tape.
