This message is to announce the availability on expo.lcs.mit.edu
(magic.tar.Z in subdirectory contrib) of the sources of an X-11
device driver for version 4 of Magic, a VLSI layout system from
the 1986 VLSI Tools distribution from UC Berkeley.

Prof. Ousterhout of UC Berkeley has allowed us to freely distribute
the driver to the public, slightly modifying the original Magic
copyright notice on all graphics and text driver files.

This version of Magic has been tested with IBM RTs and 6152s with
a variety of displays, from monochrome, to VGA, 8514 and Megapel.

The X-11 port was written by myself and it is based an X-10 driver for
Magic which had been worked on by Doug Pan of Stanford University and
Markus Wlodka of Brown University.

The "rest of Magic" sources are still non-redistributable and can be
obtained as part of the "1986 VLSI Tools" tape by sending a material/
handling fee ($175 for Universities, $1,500 for commercial companies) to:

EECS/ERL Industrial Liaison Program
479 Copy Hall
University of California
Berkeley, CA 94720

A signed letter of non-redistribution is also required. Magic cannot
be distributed outside your organization or the USA.

Please report bugs of Magic for the X Window System, version 11 to:
