[comp.lsi] VHDL test examples

rajgopal@lhotse.cs.unc.edu (Suresh Rajgopal) (10/20/89)

I am trying to obtain some example circuit descriptions
in VHDL, and I was wondering where I could find them.

I am interested in combinational and synchronous
 (clocked) hardware:
Control units, and Data path modules
    comparators,adders,multipliers,ALUs shifters,counters etc

I would appreciate it if someone could point me
to the right place.

Thanks

-Suresh

A good source would be the following books:
VHDL Handbook by Dave Coehlo of Vantage Analysis Systems
and
Chip-level modeling by Armstrong of Virginia Tech.

I would be interested in other sources for VHDL examples.

SIMTEL-20 maintains an archive of VHDL sources and a mailing list on VHDL.

Quoting from the Internet Resource Guide:

"All the files are accessible via ANONYMOUS FTP. However the number of
simultaneous ANONYMOUS FTP jobs is limited by time of day and day of week
to provide reasonable network performance for our paying customers..."

The administrative address for the mailing list is:

     VHDL-REQUEST@WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL

Further information can be obtained from:

     EBAAS@WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL

I haven't retrieved anything from there, except some help files, so I don't
know how much VHDL they actually have. I have seen there UNIX listings, though
and they were pretty large.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone checked out the examples that are on the VHDL
USER's Group BBS machine??

According to an article in EETimes, they willl be adding
an USENET/Internet connection in the future.
