Dear Colleague: The saga continues concerning the proposed IEEE Trans. on VLSI. Last week the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governers passed a resolution endorsing the development of an IEEE Trans. on VLSI in cooperation with other societies. The intent of this action, as discussed in the Computer Society Pubs Board meeting, is to show that the Computer Society recognizes the need for increased coverage and visibility of VLSI but is sensitive to the concerns of other societies. You may recall that the Circuits & Systems Society had defeated the proposal for joint sponsorship and that the Solid State Circuits Council had objected to the overlap with its journal. Therefore, we plan to continue our discussions with both the Circuits & Systems Society and the Solid State Circuits Council to determine how best to address this issue. We will report the results of these discussions to the Computer Society at its next administrative meeting in late February. Sincerely, Don Bouldin, Chairman IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on VLSI
