[comp.lsi] SPICE3, spice@cad.berkeley.edu

harry@neuron5.Jpl.Nasa.Gov (Harry Langenbacher) (11/21/90)

What is the latest version of spice from berkeley, and where can I get it ?
What happened to cad.berkeley.edu and spice@cad.berkeley.edu ?

I have previously gotten spice-3c1 and spice-3d1 via anonymous ftp from cad.berkeley.edu.
Then spice-3d1 dissappeared from cad.berkeley.edu. I wrote to spice@cad.berkeley.edu, twice,
but apparently the mail is being forwarded to (towards) an unreachable host. Now I can't
access cad.berkeley.edu via anonymous ftp - I get this message:
530 User ftp: can't change directory to /dist2/ftp.
Login failed.

Was there anything wrong with spice 3d1 that caused someone to take it off cad.berkeley.edu ?

So many questions, so little time...

Since I didn't get permission to post this letter, I don't name the author:

    Date: Fri, 2 Nov 90 14:43:29 -0800
    Subject: SPICE license agreement

We have just release version 3d2 of spice (3d1 was an internal release only).

When Dr. Spickelmier left, the ftp access for spice was terminated. It
will be restarted sometime in the future, but not soon.
Until we restart ftp access for Spice, you must go through the "regular"
    software distribution office. Email to:
    	cindy@janus.Berkeley.EDU
Tell her that you need the agreement forms and you need to know:
The price ($150 the last time I saw)
Who to make a check to
Where to send the check and the agreement forms

Regards,
ruck.

Just received the new Berkeley software catalog with a notice as to the release of
Spice3D.2. It states that only unix is supported now and the distribution can be had
on 3.5 in floppies or 9-track 1600 BPI reel tapes. The Cost is 250.00
The new version has enhancements and bug fixes

The address is:

Software Distribution office
Electrical Eng and Computer Sciences
Electronics Research Laboratory
479 Cory Hall
Univ. of California at Berkeley
Berkeley, CA 94720
(415) 643-6687

Contact Berkeley at the above address for a catalog and sample agreement letter that
you must fill out.
