Is there a Public Domain Version of VHDL. I am a graduatte student at Wayne State University. I need to work on VHDL for a course project. I would be using the package for educational purpose only. To the best of my knowledge, there is no public domain program which will execute Verilog code. The next best thing might be a University Site License from Intermetrics which runs about $1K/workstation. <<Disclaimer about accuracy of above information>>

I saw an ad in a recent issue of EDN news edition (one of those free papers for EE's) about a VHDL (IEEE 1076) simulator that runs on MS-DOS machines. Costs about $499. I can't remember the company or the date of the EDN issue, but I received the paper last week. Eric

University of Pittsburgh has developed a VHDL simulator that runs a fairly decent subset of the 1076 VHDL. We have it installed here at Syracuse, and as far as I know the source code is free. Shantanu Ganguly Syracuse University
