[comp.lsi] Seeking info on large chip designs

owen@sbcs.sunysb.edu (Owen Kaser) (06/07/91)

Hi netland! I'm interested in the hierarchical designs of some large
chips- microprocessors, for instance.
I'd like to analyze the different hierarchies.

The information I'd like is, for each cell:
    - what types of subcells it contains, and how many of each type
    - how many other items (e.g. geometric primitives) it contains.

Since I suspect that the typical hierarchy (if there is such a thing) of
a hand-designed chip differs from that produced by most silicon compilers,
I'd like several examples of both kinds.

Would anyone help point me to large designs that are publicly available
(say by FTP), and tell me how I might extract the appropriate information
from them? Or, can anyone point me to any data on the hierarchies
of some large commercial chip designs?

Thanks,
