Adding to what steve has already said:

The intent is to have a forum where one could freely exchange ideas on
Parallelism in general. Steve had posted a week or so back a "policy"
statement about topics that could be discussed in comp.hypercube, wherein
he had mentioned about non-hypercube domains too.

I will not indulge into the details here - but say that traffic (already
there are 250+ newsgroups - well atleast that many in the US) is too
low (rather nill) to have a separate newsgroup. Also, Steve's intensions
(correct me if I am wrong, Steve) was not for a newsgroup dedicated solely
for hypercubes. It so happens that cubes seems to be the most widespread in
use (and thus likely to generate more traffic) and thus the name.
(Sequent, Alliant, Encore & other SM fans - send your
flames to comp.hypercube :-)) If many are still reluctant to use
comp.hypercube - the only other choice is a mailing list until the traffic
builds up. But the important thing is to contribute articles and set the
ball rolling.

Hopefully, as Steve indicated, a name should not prevent you from reading or
posting articles in COMP.HYPERCUBE about hypercubes & non-hypercube issues.
Also, as comp.hypercube is moderated, expect to have a a better S/N ratio there.

Note: A similar step is afoot to have internet INFO like system (Paul
Messina will try to co-ordinate that activity). Also, plans are afoot
to possibly archive postings (as and when disk space can be scrounged up).
