The past couple days of posts have been either defensive Fortran'ers saying offensive (and incorrect) things about C, and everyone else saying nasty but true things about Fortran. How about let's get back to the 'my chip is better than yours' topic? MIPS has announced the R3000, which it claims (to wall street journal, at least,) offers twice the performance of any competing chip. Hey, MIPS guys, does it really? If the MC88000 gets 17 iMIPS, does yours get 34 mipsMIPS? What's it got new? The article also says that AT+T is sleeping around, and has "reached an agreement... to make sure that a new, standard version of Unix will work readily on the MIPS chip."
