[comp.arch] Info. wanted on implementations of distributed applications

brown@noao.arizona.edu (Mike Brown) (06/05/88)

First, I'd like to apologize for cross posting this request to these different
news groups.

I am involved in an effort to "sell" distributed computing concepts
to application development groups/management within Southwestern Bell Telephone.
Southwestern Bell is a large and diverse organization. There are groups
implementing state of the art systems as well as a much larger number
of groups which still believe in centralized monolithic designs.

What I am looking for are examples of operational systems in daily use
which use a distributed design/implementation. Examples from other
baby bells are best but any operational system from the commercial,
government or academic worlds will be helpful.

The more examples I can reference, the easier it will be to convince
some people that distributed designs are reasonable, effective and
make good sense from a business point of view. Some people need
to be shown rather than convinced by argument...

Please reply via mail. If there is interest I will post a summary of
the responses.
