I just wondered if there had been anything about this project lately? I had heard reports that Zilog was working on it many years ago but never saw any ads by Zilog announcing its availability. Does anyone know the reason for the delay? -- I speak for myself, not the company. Phil Ngai, {ucbvax, decwrl, allegra}!amdcad!phil or phil@amd.com

in article <22436@amdcad.AMD.COM>, phil@amdcad.AMD.COM (Phil Ngai) says: > What I heard somewhere: (possibly just rumor): The 80K was to be a hardwired-logic (as vs. microcoded) 32-bit microprocessor. They had it up to the silicon stage when the chief designer left to go to another company. They found bugs in the initial test run (not unusual -- just ask Intel about the 80386!). But they could never find the bugs, and, in fact, had difficulty simply understanding some of the things that the long-departed designer had done. According to rumor, they eventually had to scrap the whole project and start over from scratch again, whereupon Zilog's financial problems precluded any swift redesign.... -- Eric Lee Green ..!{ames,decwrl,mit-eddie,osu-cis}!killer!elg Snail Mail P.O.
