I've come across a reference to a real-time benchmark called Realstone. It is a refinement of Whetstone that includes "context switching, interrupt handling, I/O processing." Does anyone know more about this? Better yet, does anyone have the source code? The reference is Brian Tinham, "How real time is your real time computer?" Control and Instrumentation, v. 18, n. 11, Nov. 1986. This is a British journal, and I have the article on order through interlibrary loan. However, from the number of articles under Mr. Tinham's name and the short page span, I guess he is the editor and thus will have few technical remarks to make the benchmark. Does anyone have others references or know how I can get in touch with the author(s) of this program? Thanks! -- -- Mark Smotherman, Comp. Sci. [] "The article introduces the concept of a 3D computer and defines it in terms of a three-dimensional performance graph whose axis are labelled MIPS-1 (Mega Instructions Per Sec), MIPS-2 (Mega Interrupts Per Sec) and MIPS-3 (Mega I/O Per Sec)." Oh no ... please don't kidnap the term "3D computer" to describe an especially good real-time system. A "3D computer" is one that manipulates and displays three-dimensional images. (My employer sells such.) -=- Andrew Klossner (decvax!tektronix!tekecs!andrew) [UUCP] (andrew%tekecs.tek.com@relay.cs.net) [ARPA]
