As I heard from a friend who's friend is working at SONY, it is 4.2/3bsd port, by SONY people. They have various configurations, but their current systems are built around either one or two 68030s, depending on the models. They have various different display configurations, with/without disk drive in the chasis, etc. The "feel" of dual processor 68020 NEWS according to one of our professor who used it for a few month in Japan, was that it was faster than single processor camparable models of SUNs. They have X-window and GMMW ("Give Me More Window" window system originated from Kyoto Univ.), NSF licsnsed from SUN Co., etc. They of course support Kanji. Sony NEWS workstation are very popular in Japan, and lots of software venders are porting softwares on it. It is popular to the universities, too. ============================================================================== Any opinion expressed here is my own. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ryutarou Ohbuchi "Life's rock."
