Early this month I posted a short article which asked a few questions on the subject computer security. I got some good input --- thanks --- and some discussions have also been stimulated here on the net. OK -- now I would like to add a little focus. Most systems in the future that address security will have some way to validate a user's ability to access that system. Passwords alone will not suffice. there will be some electronic key with some possible biometric characteristic evaluated. The key's and readers will have some microcontroller controlling the actual transaction. What should this little beast consist of???? * what kind of memory (Eprom, EE other) * how much memory * what sort of provisions for memory protection. * what kind of I/O --- rs232, other communication * what sort of performance * should this have some DSP characteristics This part could also be used in cable TV scramblers as well as other non-computer related products. I would be interested in hearing from others working in this area. I am interested in understanding what access methods are being looked at, and IF this is a likely application for a microcontroller that has some security features built-in, what should this device look like. replies via email will be appreciated thanx in advance roger
