[comp.arch] Apple's use of A-line traps

I have a couple of questions about Apple's use of the 680x0's A-line
instructions to impelment toolbox calls:

   1)  Why did Apple choose this method?  Simply because it minimized
       code space (important on the 128K original Macs)?

   2)  Does Motorola plan to use the A-line instructions in the future or
       has Apple been promised that they will continue to be available?
