[comp.arch] ISSCC

For those who wish to know more about the

	- General Electric RPM-40 Floating Point
	- Intel N10
	- Hewlett Packard RISC
	- DEC latest VAX-on-a-chip
	- DEC RISC efforts (more than 1 of em!!)
	- prototype 16 Megabit dRAMs
	- latest BiCMOS circuit tricks

... I heartily recommend the Digest of Technical Papers from the 1989 ISSCC
(the International Solid State Circuits Conference). It's available from
the IEEE {IEEE cat. no. 89CH2562.7 --- ISSN 0193-6530} for about $120 US.
Call 'em and ask.

I just returned and had tremendous fun there.

Among other things, I had a chance to participate in a panel session entitled
"Design of 100+ MIPS Microprocessors" during which Norm Jouppi of DEC, Dave
Ditzel of Sun, Pat Bosshart of T.I., myself (of MIPS Computer), and others
managed to goad, cajole, and annoy one another into making some rather amusing
predictions of how, what, when, why, (and so forth) regarding *uniprocessor*
micros which performed at >= 100 times the speed of a VAX 11/780. Thankfully
the panel session occurred _after_ the digest was printed.

A whale of a good time.
