[comp.arch] HP Precision Architecture and Hitachi

vic@zen.co.uk (Victor Gavin) (08/04/89)

I have been informed (and thus would like to share my mis-information)
that HP and Hitachi have signed an agreement whereby HP get hold of
some of Hitachi's chip fabrication technology in exchange for
Precision Architecture.

Way to go HP!

HP and Hitachi have announced an agreement which begins
to license (licence) HP-PA. This agreement is to target high end
opportunities for HP-PA. There should be close compatibility such
that HP O/S's should be runnable on Hitachi computers.

In addition, a second HP-PA partnership was announced about the same
time. Samsung and HP have signed a memorandum of understanding which
licenses HP-PA. Included is agreements to look for low-end opportunities
for Samsung to exploit with HP-PA. In this agreement, some
technology transfer of current and planned HP-PA CPU implementations can
be made. Also included is some HP compiler code.

In both cases, close cooperation to further define the markets and the
opportunities is continuing. There is a commitment to provide strong
support to HP's technology partners.

Precision Architecture is branching out beyond HP!
