[comp.arch] Number of 386 Transistors?

nelson@m.cs.uiuc.edu (12/08/89)

I can't seem to find this in any of the data books or Intel literature:

Approximately how many transistors does the 80386 have?

If you also happen to have that for the entire 80X86 family, could you
  give me that as well...

I even called the number they listed in the databook, and it's been
  disconnected...

Danke!

If memory serves, the numbers are roughly these:

	8086/8088	30,000
80186/80188	60,000 (not at all sure about this one)
	80286 130,000
	80386 275,000
	80486 1.18 million

The 386 microprocessor has approximately 275,000 transistors.
The i486 has about 1,200,000 of them.
