[comp.arch] Marketing: The Final Frontier

Sadly none of the KMfH based systems I have had pitched at me have good
characteristics for our costing timeline and normal machine lifespan
(3, 10 years resp.) I have not seen one offering Good I/O, Good CPU, at
least low order flexible multiprocessors, and an UPGRADE POLICY that
recognizes the lifespan of the cpu chip/boards [recently implied to be
order of ONE year on the market, which is not inconsistant with my
observations of CISC chipwork]

Of course one sells to the speed freaks first but if any company could
package a machine like that it should win big. As a long time DEC fan
I am saddened not to see them produce an R6000 family based system with
the platform style multiprocessing and upgrade path.
