From the Jan. 16 Boston Globe:

LACK OF MONEY ENDS US MEMORIES PROJECT

"US Memories Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., formed six months ago to ease
American dependence on foreign computer memory chips, yesterday said the
venture had been terminated without ever making a single chip.

"Sanford Kane, president of US Memories, said the venture folded because
it could not find enough outside investors.

"Analysts said it was an example of American industry's failure to nurture
innovation for the sake of the industry rather than individual corporate
performance."
