[comp.arch] Inverted Page Tables and Object Oriented Systems

lamaster@ames.arc.nasa.gov (Hugh LaMaster) (03/01/90)

In last fall's IEEE Computer Design Conference an interesting paper was
presented which described the design criteria for good MMU support of
Object-based Systems.

These criteria point to Inverted Page Tables, and software TLB reloading.
The HP-PA and IBM RT are the best fit, although it appears that you
need more segments, so that you can assign a segment to an object.
(Of course, 64 bit addresses are a nice way to do this, although
they didn't take this approach :-)

The paper is:

M. Khalidi
