Someone was recently flamed for posting an article which mentioned a specific function in a specific operating system, i.e. fork() in unix. The function is the process scheduling mechanism in unix and is absolutely central to its structure. No-one seems to get any negative feedback for discussing specific instructions in specific processors, provided they relate to an architectual issue, even if the issue is specific to that particular processor. If people don't want software architecture discussed on this group, I suggest that they rename it to comp.arch.hardware, rather than go around flaming those who assume the wider scope.
