[comp.arch] Call for discussion: comp.sys.ibm.rs6000

carlton@rice.edu (Brian D. Carlton) (03/11/90)

This is a call for discussion of the possibility of creating the
newgroup comp.sys.ibm.rs6000.

This group is for discussion of all aspects of IBM's Risc
System 6000 workstation, including the POWER stations and
     POWER servers.

A recent (rough) count of the following newsgroups showed that
Of the 195 articles in comp.arch, 51 were about the RS/6000. In
comp.unix.aix it was 10 out of 36 and in comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt 3 of
39.

I believe a new group is needed because none of the above groups
really fit. Much of the material in comp.arch about the 6000 was
not about its architecture. There is a lot to talk about the
6000 other than AIX 3.0. And the 6000 is not an RT, so the
discussion does not belong there.

The discussion will be carried on in news.groups for 14 to 30
days, as per the guidelines.

Sincerely,
Brian Carlton
