[comp.arch] New Intel CPU's First Appearance

mmm@cup.portal.com (Mark Robert Thorson) (05/31/90)

I was perusing a recent Intel ap note this morning (AP-335), and I noticed
a change to the trademark boilerplate inside the front cover. This is a
sort of capsule history of Intel, listing every trademark they ever had,
including Intellec and MICROMAINFRAME.

The list does change from time to time, and the most recent change is the
addition of 586, 686, i586, and i686. Even the 1990 editions of the
data books don't list these trademarks in the boilerplate.

Interesting that the 786 wasn't there, but I believe that you have to
have a use of the trademark within so many years of claimin it.

One of the Intel vp's talked about the 786 (millenium 86) chip, and it
is said to have four integer CPUs, one vectorable FPU, 2MB cache, and
built in DVI. If someone saved the article you might quote it.
