sanwalk@robohack.UUCP (A. Roy Sanwalka) (06/05/90)
In a heroic attempt to save my generation of hackers (those raised on S/100s and weaned on PCs 'til we were allowed into the real world of workstation computing :-) from a sinful lack of background shared bythe great majority of the "other" generation of hackers (mainframe & other heavy metal gurus raised on PDPs and condemmed to spend eternitys debugging /370 asembler and unlimited reams of Satanic COBOL), I have decided to take up the following pursuit: I will attempt to compile a library (and list of bibliographic references thereof) of ALL major, influential literary works pertaining to computers. for those of us still wired up on JOLT Cola, this means BOOKS! So, I am appealing to the net, and the gurus herein, to provide me with the necessary references (and possible leads to copies of said wondrous literary treasures). PLEASE DO NOT SEND REFERENCES FOR COMMONLY ACCEPTED STANDARD MATERIAL. I do no need a tons of mesages saying "I have a spare copy of this great books by Tannenbaum" or "Do you have the K&R bible in your list?". I will happily provide all contributers with continually updated lists of the books. I hope to be able to eventually compile a "recommended minimal hacker's library" to help forward the cause of keeping the tradition alive. Please reply in E-mail to any of the addresses below, as there is far too much nettraffic already in these groups. Later... -- | A.
