Well, two people have asked for information on the latest Acorn ARM powered machines. So I feel justified in posting - particularly since comp.arch has been moderately quiet recently! New machines are A540 (RISC OS), R225 (RISC iX discless) and R260 (RISC iX). They have from 4 to 16MBytes of memory; memory bus bandwidth of 38.4MBytes per second (up from 25.6MBytes per sec) using 1 to 4 MEMC1a chips. They are all powered by 30MHz ARM3 and have a dhrystone rating of 23500. All current modes plus VGA to 8 bits per pixel and Super VGA at 4 bits per pixel. SCSI 100MByte discs. New "FPA" hardware floating point accelerator due in '91. Other details would definitely constitute "selling", so find an Acorn dealer (or Olivetti Canada) for more info. --Roger Wilson (my other CPU's also an ARM3)
