[comp.arch] Run-time object analysis

lisa@sauron.Columbia.NCR.COM (Lisa Campbell) (12/05/90)

I'm currently involved in a project in which we are trying to
determine run-time statistics of an object. I've heard that
the MIPS system has a tool which inserts probes into an object
for dynamic analysis, called pixie. Has anyone ever
heard of this tool? If so, do you know where I might find
any additional information on it? Do you know if there are
any other pixie-like tools for other architectures such as SPARC,
Motorola 68k or 88k, or Intel x86's? How portable might these
tools be, i.e., could they be easily ported to work with another
architecture? Is there anything available in the public-domain?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions! Please e-mail
any responses to the address given below.
