Second Workshop on Scalable Shared-Memory Architectures CALL FOR PARTICIPATION Michel Dubois Univ. of Southern California Shreekant Thakkar Sequent Computer Systems 1 Introduction Several scalable shared-memory architectures have proposed as the next step in evolution of shared-memory architectures. This workshop will bring together researchers and engineers working on shared-memory architectures. Topics to be discussed include (but are not limited to): Performance Evaluation Measurement, trace-driven simulation, execution- driven simulations, analytical models, validations of models. New techniques as well as new results of existing techniques are encouraged. Workload Characterization Construction of workloads and benchmark programs to compare different large-scale shared-memory mul- tiprocessors. Architectures MIN-based architectures, hierarchical multi-level cache-based systems, arrays of processors, new pro- tocols, compiler/hardware trade-offs. Consistency Schemes Consistency schemes and their implications on the programming model and efficiency of the machine. Input/Output subsystems High-throughput parallel I/O architectures and their Performance evaluations in the context of Large-Scale shared-memory systems. Fault-tolerance and Performability Analysis and design of fault-tolerant, large-scale Shared-memory multiprocessors for data-base application or parallel processing. System Development Update on building projects of large-scale shared- memory multiprocessors both in industrial and academic environments. 2 Proposed Format The workshop will be open to all. However, we wish to limit the attendance to 75, including speakers. There will be no "tutorial" presentation. Each attendee is assumed to be familiar with the basic material. 3 Duration The workshop will last 2 Days, on Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26 It will held at the Royal York Hotel, in Toronto, Canada (the same hotel as for the 18th International Symposium on Computer Architecture). 4 Cost Rates for hotel room will be announced as soon as they are known. There will also be a fee, which will include lunch, dinner as well as registration. 5 Presentations There will be "short" presentations followed by "long" discus- sions. The emphasis will be on open discussions. 6 Submissions For Participation If you are interested then please send an abstract by April 6 to Michel Dubois or Shreekant Thakkar by E-mail or fax. We will select the speakers and call you back by April 10. 7 Workshop Record Depending on the nature of the workshop, proceedings may be published at a later date.
