I'm looking at how often some of the more esoteric instructions on the RS6000 are used, i.e. block copy, mult-add, load/store with update etc. Does anybody know of an available dynamic instruction count package for the RS6000? This is akin to pixie for mips and I've heard of a publically available one for SPARC as well. Varun Mehta

A paper by a couple of SUN people presented at ASPLOS-IV refers to "spix", "spixstats", and "shadow". Are these the [SPARC] ones you are alluding to? -- Richard Gorton rcg@lpi.liant.com (508) 626-0006 Language Processors, Inc. Framingham, MA 01760 Hey! This is MY opinion.
